People ask us about fullness under the chin that does not change much with diet or exercise. At Uplifting Medi Spa, we offer Kybella in New Braunfels and Spring Branch. We decide fit with you in consult after we look at the area and hear your goals.
Kybella is an injectable treatment for submental fat, the fat under the chin that creates a double-chin look. It is not surgery. It is also not a plan for fat elsewhere on the body. This post is educational. Results vary. A consult is required before treatment.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable that uses deoxycholic acid, a molecule your body already uses when it breaks down dietary fat. When we inject it into the fat under the chin, it can destroy treated fat cells in that area. Once those cells are gone, they do not store fat the same way again in that treated zone.
On our Kybella page, we talk about a more defined jawline and a less full profile under the chin. The goal in consult is a natural contour that still looks like you, not a dramatic overnight change.
What happens during a Kybella visit?
A typical visit starts with a consultation. We assess the under-chin area, review your health history, and decide whether Kybella is the right tool or whether another option fits better.
On treatment day we cleanse the area, apply a numbing agent for comfort, and mark injection sites from your plan. Then we place a series of small injections under the chin with a fine needle. Most sessions take about 20 to 30 minutes once we start.
We send you home with aftercare instructions. Mild swelling, redness, or tenderness is common and usually settles over the following days. We tell you what to expect so the first few days do not feel like a surprise.
Sessions, swelling, and downtime
How many sessions
Most people need more than one session. Many see meaningful change after two to four treatments, spaced about a month apart. Your plan depends on how much fullness you have and how the area responds. We set the number in consult and adjust as we go.
Swelling and comfort
Swelling under the chin is one of the most common effects after Kybella. It can look more full for a short stretch before it looks better. That is expected for many people. Ice, head elevation when you rest, and the aftercare sheet we give you help you manage the first few days. Numbing before injections keeps most visits tolerable. Some people feel a brief sting or pressure during placement.
Downtime
Most people return to normal daily activities the same day. We often suggest skipping hard workouts for a day or two. Plan around events if you do not want visible swelling in photos. We talk through timing before you book.
Who may be a good fit?
You may be a reasonable candidate to discuss Kybella if you have moderate fullness under the chin, are in generally good health, and want a non-surgical option with a realistic timeline.
We may recommend waiting, or another path, if skin laxity is the main issue rather than fat, if your goals need a different contour plan, or if your medical history raises questions about injectable treatment. Kybella is FDA-approved for submental fullness. We do not use this post to market it for other body areas.
Our nurse practitioners and clinical team evaluate fit under Dr. Jennifer Upton's clinic approach. If Kybella is not the right tool, we will say so.
FAQ
Does Kybella hurt?
We numb the area first. Most clients describe mild discomfort or a brief sting during the injections, not sharp pain throughout the visit.
How long does a session take?
About 20 to 30 minutes for the injection portion is typical. Add time for consult, photos, and marking on the first visit.
What side effects should I expect?
Mild swelling, redness, and tenderness at the injection sites are common and usually temporary. Less common effects can occur. We review risks in consult and give you clear aftercare.
How many treatments will I need?
Often two to four, about a month apart. Some people need fewer or more. We set expectations after we see the area.
Is there downtime?
Minimal for most people. Visible swelling is the part that affects calendars more than pain. Plan social or photo days with that in mind.
Can Kybella treat fat in other areas?
Currently Kybella is FDA-approved for submental fullness under the chin. Ask us in consult about other contour options if your concern is elsewhere.
